Washer Not Draining
Distinguish a paused cycle from a drain restriction using controls, load and the visible external hose only.

Keep guards, panels and safety devices in place. Stop whenever the next action needs tools, live testing, disconnection or access beyond the owner's manual.
Checks you can safely make
- Run the intended drain control
Close the lid or door and select Drain & Spin or the model-specific cancel/drain action. Wait for any safety lock to release.
- Reduce excess suds
If foam is visible, follow the manual's oversudsing recovery procedure. Do not add detergent or drain chemicals.
- Inspect the external hose
Look behind the washer for a visible kink, crush point or hose pushed too far into the standpipe. Do not pull out a full machine or disconnect a wet hose.
- Check the household drain
Watch for water backing up at the standpipe or nearby sink. A slow household drain is a plumbing fault, not an appliance setting.
Common questions
Is not draining the same as not spinning?
No. Many washers will not enter high-speed spin until water drains, but a machine can also drain normally and still have a separate spin or balance problem.
Can too much detergent prevent draining?
Heavy suds can interfere with sensing and extend the cycle. Use only the type and amount specified for the washer.
