Before you start

Keep guards, panels and safety devices in place. Stop whenever the next action needs tools, live testing, disconnection or access beyond the owner's manual.

Checks you can safely make

  1. Define what still works

Note whether the display, clock, cooktop, light or fan operates. The pattern helps distinguish a control setting from a wider supply issue without opening the appliance.

  2. Clear special modes

Check the display for Control Lock, Demo, Sabbath, Delay Start or an unset flashing clock after an outage. Use the model manual to return to normal cooking mode.

  3. Close the oven door

Confirm a rack or pan is not preventing full closure. Some models interrupt elements or ignition during certain operations when the door is open.

  4. Try one controlled command

With the cavity empty, select Bake at a moderate temperature and observe the display for two minutes. Cancel if there is an error, unusual smell, sound or visible sparking.

What to do next

Record whether the appliance is gas, electric or dual fuel, which functions still operate and the exact display message. Arrange qualified appliance service if normal modes and visible supply status do not restore operation.

Common questions

Why does the clock work but the oven not heat?

A control mode, delayed command, door condition or internal heating circuit fault can leave the display active. Internal diagnosis is a service task.

Can a power outage leave the oven disabled?

Yes. Some models require the time to be set or an error to be cleared after power returns. Follow the model-specific manual rather than a generic reset.
